How much do alterations cost?

There are so many factors that go into pricing alterations. Every garment is unique, just like you and me! Everything from the material and construction to what needs to be nipped in, let out, removed, or added contributes to the cost of alterations. Contact me today for an estimate. (Information about deposits can be found on the policies page.)

Generally speaking, customers typically spend:

  • $ on small alterations and repairs

  • $$ on standard alterations and most formal wear

  • $$$ on bridal alterations and some formal wear

I don’t know if you can do this / fix this but…

Go ahead and ask me anything; there are no stupid questions! I’ll let you know what’s possible, what’s not, and how much things could cost so you can gauge whether it’s worth your time and money.

When should I get fitted for my wedding or special event?

Usually I recommend that your first fittings should be scheduled:

  • For brides: 8-10 weeks before the wedding date

  • For bridesmaids / bridal party: 4-6 weeks before the wedding date

  • Prom or other formal events: 2-4 weeks before the event date

These timeframes can vary based on how many alterations your outfit will need. Also please note that it’s best to request an appointment as soon as possible to ensure a spot on the calendar - wedding season gets very busy! (Up-to-date information about availability can be found on the “updates/announcements” highlight on Instagram.)

What should I bring to my appointment?

For bridal and formal wear fittings:

  • please bring the shoes and any structural undergarments you plan to wear with your outfit so everything can be fitted properly

  • feel free to bring with any accessories if you’d like to try them on with your outfit (this mostly applies to bridal appointments)

  • to avoid stains, make sure your skin is clean and free from things like heavy lotions, perfumes, sunscreen, sunless tanner, etc.

For standard alterations or repairs:

  • in most cases you don’t need anything other than the garment/item itself, but I may recommend things to bring if it will aid in your appointment

  • the garment or item should be clean (visit policies for more information)

Can I bring people with me to my appointment?

Yes of course! Bring your mom, your friend, your bridal party, etc. or just fly solo - whatever makes sense for you. Just keep in mind that you’ll be busy getting fitted, so if a little child will be there, plan ahead to have another adult with to attend to them during your appointment.

Do you do upholstery or embroidery?

No, I don’t have the capability to do furniture upholstery or machine embroidery.

Where are you located?

All appointments and work are done in my home in Kandiyohi, MN. When you schedule an appointment with me, I will send you the street address via the contact method you used.

What forms of payment do you take?

I currently accept cash or check; checks can be made out to “Minnesewta Nice”.
